Aydin Breland Narrows Recruitment

Five-star defensive lineman Aydin Breland cut his recruitment down to ten schools, and the Tennessee Volunteers are in a strong position.

While outside critics have suggested that Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel doesn't place a premium on defense, he is quietly making waves for several top defenders. They are closing in on several elite talents in the 2024 class, and one priority narrowed his recruitment on Friday.

Five-star defensive lineman Aydin Breland hails from Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California. He stands 6-5 and weighs 290 pounds. 247Sports had Breland as the 25th overall player in his class and the fourth-ranked defensive lineman. He previously had 24 offers, but on Friday, he took to Twitter to narrow his list down to 10. He named Tennessee, Georgia, Texas A&M, and LSU in the SEC, as well as USC from his home state of California. Alabama and Auburn were SEC schools that offered him and did not make the cut, as were future conference members Oklahoma and Texas.

Breland is a multisport athlete, competing in shot put and discus and playing football. Breland recorded 24 total tackles on the football field, including 10.5 tackles for a loss in 2022. He had four sacks last season. The first thing that pops out on the tape is strength. In his pass rush, Breland moves offensive linemen out of the way, and when he has a hand on the quarterback, they cannot get out of his grasp. In the run game, he plays behind the line of scrimmage, whether it be shooting gaps or powering through offensive linemen. Again, once he gets a hand on the running back, it is basically game over.
