Nation's No. 1 OT Brandon Baker Narrows Recruitment, Continues To Favor Tennessee

2024's No. 1 offensive tackle, Brandon Baker, released his top 10 schools on Thursday, with the Tennessee Volunteers included.

Brandon Baker is the top offensive tackle in the class of 2024. The five-star stands 6-5 and 285 pounds. He plays at the renowned Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California. The school has produced multiple college football legends, and Tennessee is going after other players from the school right now, whether they be in Baker’s class or one year younger.

As for Baker, he mentioned in late May that Tennessee was a sleeper school for his recruitment. Baker has been to Tennessee just once (April 1), but that trip was enough for him to include them on the list of 10 schools that he released on Thursday. In addition to Tennessee, he named Georgia and future member Texas from the SEC, Washington, and Oregon from out west, as well as Michigan, Ohio State, Florida State, Miami (FL), and Nebraska. Interestingly, he did not name any schools from California.

In the passing game, Baker can sustain blocks for ages, a trait that is super important for a team like Tennessee that likes to throw the deep ball. In the run game, he gets downhill and does so with force. He has the athleticism and footwork to pull, and he uses his size and power once he gets there. His height is there, but at the college level, especially in the SEC, he will likely look to add some weight if he continues playing tackle. Even as is, he is already an elite pass protector and run blocker, and we will see in time if Tennessee can snag him from across the country.
