The Tennessee Volunteers are pushing their chips in on the defensive front in the 2024 recruiting cycle. They are after almost a dozen high-end defensive linemen, hoping to bolster a unit that hasn't gotten much production in the past few seasons. Four-star edge rusher Daniel Okoye factors into their plans.

Okoye is the consensus No. 1 player in Oklahoma. He cut his recruitment down to ten schools on Saturday afternoon, and several top-tier programs are in pursuit. The in-state Oklahoma Sooners are making him feel like a priority, but his recruitment is still open to these ten programs. He told On3 that he's searching for "the coaches who show interest in me and they care enough about me as an athlete to tell me how they would use me, not just that they need me." He explained that many coaches don't have full plans for recruits, especially implementing these prospects into their defense. The coach who does that the best with him likely lands his services, and these ten programs do a tremendous job at laying out foundational plans.

The 6-5, 230-pound edge visited Knoxville for the first time in January and felt very comfortable in the Tennessee atmosphere. He hasn't yet announced a return trip, but it seems one could be coming in the future. Defensive line coach Rodney Garner does a strong job of ensuring the top defenders in America get on campus, and Okoye should be no different.
