Ohio OL Carter Smith Details Vols Offer, Talk with Alex Golesh and More

Tennessee is the latest offer for 2022 Powell (Ohio) Olentangy Liberty offensive tackle. The 6'6", 270-pound prospect now holds over 20 Division 1 offers, including Duke, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss, and Nebraska among others.

Tennessee's offensive coordinator, Alex Golesh, extended the offer to the athletic tackle prospect, and the two hit it off during the conversation.

"Coach Golesh was such an incredible sport," Smith said. "He's from around the same area, so it was cool to talk about my hometown with a coach!

"His confidence level seemed very assuring, showing that he knows what he wants to accomplish at Tennessee, especially with this new staff. He had incredible energy, was very straight up, and honest," Smith added.

It is likely more conversations are on the way for the two. "We are going in-depth about that later on, but he loves my athleticism on the line and thinks I would fit well in a fast-paced program," Smith said of Golesh's message on how he would fit at Tennessee.

"They are very spread at first, with wide splits, but they remain physical and stay at peak performance on offense," Smith said of what he knows about Tennessee's offense.

"With the speed their game is played at, my athleticism will match that well. That gets me really pumped up!"

"Their new offensive staff are very close and utilize their old offensive schemes, which overall were very effective," he said about what he knows about Tennessee already.

In terms of what he wants to get to know, "I just want to get to know the coaches and the program more to see if they are the right fit for me," he said.

With other schools being in the race earlier than Tennessee, Smith is just looking to continue building a relationship with Tennessee.

"We just need to keep the communication going and utilize our time on the phone, along with a possible trip down to Knoxville," Smith said.

There is no timeline in place for the coveted offensive tackle to make a decision, but he knows what he is looking for in a school.

My biggest factor in looking at a school is the people, not just the coaches, but their entire staff, the players, the students, everyone," Smith said. "Next is the education I'd be getting. The word student comes before athlete in the name student-athlete, so I need to keep that attitude throughout college. Lastly, the culture of the team—whether it's a team tradition or just how the players interact with each other, I want to find a place that gives me that best experience."
