Tennessee Coaches Go In-Home With Jake Merklinger

In this story:
Cavalry Day School quarterback Jake Merklinger put up record-setting numbers during his time in high school. He threw for nearly 10,000 yards across a decorated four-year career, adding 113 passing touchdowns and 31 rushing touchdowns. He committed to Tennessee over the summer and hasn't wavered since making his decision.
Merklinger is the No. 117 prospect in the 247Sports Composite Rankings, continuing a tradition of head coach Josh Heupel landing national recruits at the quarterback position. Heupel and offensive coordinator Joey Halzle went on an in-home visit with Merklinger on Thursday evening, touching base a few days prior to early national signing day.

The Vols have also been working on Merklinger's teammate, four-star South Carolina tight end commit Michael Smith. Tennessee hasn't been able to get him to campus, and it looks like Smith will end up signing with the Gamecocks, but anything can happen in the recruiting world, and they will continue swinging on that front.
