Kelvin Gilliam is one of the top prospects in all of the nation, regardless of position, and he is a top-five prospect at his position. Gilliam recently released his top list of schools, which included Tennessee on it, and he breaks down his interest in the Vols here.

Gilliam has been on the national recruiting scene dating back to 2018, however, the Vols jumped in the race for his services in January. Gilliam said on what helped the Vols making his top list of schools, "it is a big program and with a defensive guy like Coach Pruitt and great coaches."

Tennessee's top recruiter, Brian Niedermyer, is leading the charge for Gilliam. Gilliam said Niedermeyer is the coach who offered him and the one he communicates with the most.

Gilliam is coming off an all-state season in Virginia as a hybrid defender. Tennessee views Gilliam as an outside linebacker in their defensive system.

Gilliam said on Tennessee's defensive-minded head coach, "it’s a great opportunity to play for a coach like coach Pruitt that has a defensive-minded standpoint."

So, do the Vols have what Gilliam is looking for in a program? He said he is looking for, "a family-based school with great football and great academics with great coaches that develop players as a player and a man."

Gilliam is not sure when his recruitment is going to come to a close, but he does have a timeframe in mind. He said, "Either during my senior season or after."

The 6'3, 250lbs prospect from Highland Springs (VA) is rated as the 112th overall prospect in the nation, 5th overall WDE, and the 4th overall prospect in Virginia, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.
