Five-star, 6th overall prospect, Payton Page breaks down Tennessee being in his top 5

Payton Page is one of the most important names on big boards across the county, and rightfully so. Page measures in at 6'4, 315lbs, and moves exceptionally well for his size. Page recently released trimmed his list of top schools from 11 to 5, and Tennessee, along with Clemson, LSU, North Carolina, and Oregon made the cut. Page breaks down what helped the Vols stay on the list here.

Page has been intrigued by the opportunity that Tennessee presents since Jeremy Pruitt took over, but it all comes back to one thing, as he said what intrigues him the most, "is their defensive line legacy."

Tennessee has stayed the course with Page since he last visited in July for the last cookout of the Summer. A visit he told VR2's Matt Ray at the time, " was a family style visit. I loved the environment, and the facilities were amazing."

It was a trip that his family enjoyed at the time as well, Page said, "they loved it. My brother broke his slides during the trips, and they gave him some new ones to wear until the end of the visit. That was pretty cool."

During that trip to Tennessee, the Vols staff used it as an opportunity to get to know Page and his family better, choosing not to focus on the recruitment talk. At the time, Page said, "that is what I liked the most about the trip."

However, that has changed during the recent months. Page said, "their message has been that I can be an immediate impact." But after the summer trip, Page had to watch the Vols from afar, in a season that had its share of ups and downs. So, what did he see from them in that?

Page said, "it shows their heart and how much potential they have." Much like other recruits, Page is aware that Tennessee is on the brink of making a drastic turnaround and another look at the Vols could be coming in the near future.

Page said, "I am trying to go on an official visit there soon." If Page chooses to take the majority of his visits in the spring, with a top 5 list already set, a decision could be on the horizon.

He has continued to build a relationship with Tracy Rocker and Brian Niedermeyer throughout the course of his recruitment, and the Vols are banking on those relationships paying off down the stretch.

Page is currently rated as the 6th overall prospect in America, the number 3 defensive tackle, and the number 1 prospect from North Carolina.
