Tennessee hosted elite quarterback Ty Simpson before the dead period, and he is feeling like a major priority for the 2022 class. The Westview(TN) standout got a different vibe on campus, and he breaks that and his entire recruitment down here.

Simpson said on the trip, "This visit was different just because you know it’s getting to that time where I’m beginning to knock down my schools to a minimum, and they want me to commit, so that’s why this visit was different. I got to be on campus and it just made things very, very cool to see how Knoxville was in the town around it.

Simpson said on what he was able to take away from the trip was, "my takeaway was that I spent a long time with Coach Chaney, Coach Weinke, and Coach Pruitt, and they were always on me about who Ty Simpson is, and I spent an hour talking to Coach Chaney about how I am wired and what he wants in a quarterback, and he asked me those questions, and it was like an interview to see if he wants me to lead his offense which is very, very cool."

Simpson said on what appeals about what Tennessee has to offer, "Tennesse does have a lot to offer, as you know their stadium is very big and very nice and all. They have some of the best fans in college football and that campus in the town is just you know a college town you know when people come to Knoxville like they are intimidated not because of who they play in the players but because of the atmosphere around, and they know that when they go in there that it’s going to be a dogfight just because of how many people love the Tennessee Vols.

Simpson is a top 100 prospect with over 25 offers, and he is being recruited heavily by major players. He added on about player rankings and handling the recruiting process, "rankings don’t mean much to me, but I’m going for the top spot. I hate losing. Joe Burrow and Saquon Barkley, those guys weren’t ranked very high. It is stressful, but I know God has a place for me, and I will see where I land."

Simpson admittedly is narrowing down his recruitment, as most quarterbacks do coming out of their Junior Season, and he said on what his commitment was going to come down to, "you know major factors of my commitment have to be relationships. You know how far it is from home, the atmosphere around the campus, and the college, but also I want to win, and I want to be able to play and win at the same time."

Simpson added on Tennessee staying in the race, "Tennesse is my home-state school, so you know they’re going on the list anyway, but considering you know the relationship I have with Coach Weinke, Coach Chaney, and Coach Pruitt and the people there you know. I’ll be anxious to see what happens on the decision date."

Simpson is rated as the nation's 91st overall prospect, 3rd dual-threat quarterback, and the top prospect in Tennessee for 2022, according to 247 Sports.
