The helmet is all red, with the logo being all black with white trim around the double T's. The new helmet also has a white stripe on top, and the facemask is black.
The Red Raiders have usually worn black-and-white helmets throughout their history, but they have also worn red helmets as an alternative in the past.
Now, it appears they'll don the red helmets from time to time once the 2026 season circles upon us.
The Red Raiders will look to build off their stellar 2025 season, which is arguably their best in program history. Tech was an elite team with multiple players who will be selected in the upcoming 2026 NFL Draft.
They finished with an incredible 12-2 record, a Big 12 championship and an appearance in the College Football Playoff. Under head coach Joey McGuire, the program reached new heights. Tech boasted a top-10 scoring offense despite being a "defense-first" type of team. Texas Tech also ranked among the top 10 defenses, producing the third-best run defense over the past 10 years.
Tech dominated the Big 12 conference, averaging a +25.2 point differential, ranking second in the nation.
The Red Raiders' defense was their calling card, delivering one of the most dominant seasons in recent college football history. Over 13 games against FBS opponents, they posted an 83.5 percent stop rate—the highest by any FBS defense in the past decade and just shy of the mark set by Alabama Crimson Tide in 2012.
Texas Tech recorded 142 defensive stops, the most in the FBS, and still finished with the second-best scoring margin in the nation at plus-327, even with a shutout loss to Oregon Ducks in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals at the Orange Bowl. Across the board, the unit led the country in multiple key categories, including yards per play allowed (3.94), total takeaways (32), pressures per game (16.6), and rushing defense (68.1 yards per game).
The offense was just as good, and to no surprise, McGuire was a big reason why. The Red Raiders' offense finished the season scoring 37.6 points per game. That average ranked ninth all-time in program history as it was Texas Tech's highest scoring clip since 2016 when the Red Raiders lit up scoreboards to the tune of 43.7 points per game under former head coach Kliff Kingsbury and quarterback Patrick Mahomes II.
On top of that, Tech also ranked ninth in the country for both total offense per game (462.7 yards) and passing offense (296.7 yards).
While their season did not end as they had hoped, the 2026 season looks like one where they'll get over the top. Tech is expected to be a high-profile team sitting just outside the top five in rankings for the upcoming 2026 season.
