LOOK: Texas Freshman Running Back Jerrick Gibson Works With Former Star Bijan Robinson

Former Texas star Bijan Robinson is making sure the future of the running back room is left in good hands.

While most students are finding ways to enjoy their spring break, the Texas Longhorns are figuring out ways to improve after their big year in 2023.

They won the Big 12 in their final season in the conference, and they also made an appearance in the College Football Playoff. However, while those two achievements are great and show the program is headed in the right direction, Texas is in no position to be satisfied.

The playoff exposed their flaws on defense, and also showcased that while the offense was good, it wasn't great. The team is surely hanging onto the feeling of being close but coming up short, and the new additions like running back Jerrick Gibson want to be the reason they can reach their goals.

In a recent YouTube video uploaded by trainer Tim Riley, the Director of Sports Performance at the Kollective in Austin, Gibson can be seen working on his game with a Texas legend. The player in question happens to be Bijan Robinson who is preparing for his second NFL season with the Atlanta Falcons in 2024, after being taken with the No. 8 overall pick prior to 2023.

Robinson not only knows what it's like to be a highly-touted running back, but he knows exactly what it's like to be a highly-touted back at Texas. Also, whether he will admit it or not, he also established a standard of greatness while he was a Longhorn.

As for Gibson, he is one of the early enrollees for Texas this spring as he looks to carve out a role in the loaded backfield. The four-star recruit out of IMG Academy will look to take some carries away from CJ Baxter, Jaydon Blue, and Tre Wisner.

There are some carries to be dished out following the departures of Jonathon Brooks and Keilan Robinson, and if Gibson is anything like his training partner, he will certainly receive some.

In his final season at IMG, Gibson rushed for 740 yards and eight scores on 5.8 yards per carry, while also adding nine catches for 122 yards and a score.
