Xavier Worthy Gives Record-Setting Combine Uniform To NFL Hall Of Fame

After breaking the 40-yard dash record earlier this month at the NFL Combine, Texas Longhorns receiver Xavier Worthy will be enshrined in Canton.

Xavier Worthy is headed to Canton, Ohio. Well, at least his uniform from Indianapolis is.

The former Texas Longhorns receiver will donate his jersey and cleats from the NFL Scouting Combine to the Hall of Fame following his record-setting 40-yard dash. Worthy broke John Ross' 4.22 40-time with a 4.21-run earlier this month.

Worthy, who broke Roy Williams' freshman receiving yard record in 2021, posted the fastest 40-time earlier this month on his first run with a 4.25 dash. Many believed he wouldn't run a second time, but he wanted a chance to break the record.

As Worthy got into his stance, the crowd at Lucas Oil Stadium began to chant, knowing that history was on the line. The 5-11 pass-catcher crossed the line and continued to sprint downfield as the time read 4.22 on the big screen.

After further review, the clock was a tenth of a second off. Worthy beat the record as the crowd erupted and other prospects corralled the speeds demon on the turf.

Worthy, a two-time first-team All-Big 12 member, is one of three players to record a 40-time under 4.25 seconds. Former East Carolina and Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson initially set the record in 2008 when he posted a 4.24 time.

Since breaking the record, players across the league have congratulated Worthy on making history, including former All-Pro receiver DeSean Jackson, Hall of Fame linebacker Ray Lewis and three-time Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes. Worthy emulates his game after former Kansas City Chiefs and current Miami Dolphins speedster Tyreek Hill.

A potential first-round pick, Worthy has been linked to the Chiefs in multiple mock drafts given his speed. Kansas City has been missing a vertical threat since trading away the All-Pro in 2022.

Worthy identified Kansas City as a potential landing spot for him to begin his career, and would love to be a part of an organization primed to win multiple Super Bowl titles in the coming years.

“In a perfect world, I definitely would want to go to the Chiefs,” Worthy told USA TODAY Sports. “Just the way Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs improvise and use you. They had Tyreek Hill. The way they used him, I feel like that would be a perfect fit for me.”

A native of Fresno, Calif., Worthy started 39 games in three years at Texas. He caught 197 passes for 2,755 yards and 26 career touchdown receptions, third-most in Texas history. His 2,755 receiving yards ranks fourth all-time in school history.

Last season, Worthy hauled in 75 balls for 1,014 yards and five touchdowns while helping Texas clinch its first Big 12 title since 2009. The Longhorns also clinched their first College Football Playoff berth with a 12-2 record.

Worthy is one of four potential first-round picks for the Longhorns, joining fellow receiver Adonai Mitchell, defensive lineman Bryon Murphy and nose tackle T'Vondre Sweat.
