Boston College officially ended its regular season on Friday with a 45-20 loss to Miami, which left the stumbling Eagles with a 6-6 regular season record.

Next stop for Eagles?

Probably a spot for the Eagles in the Fenway Bowl on Dec. 28 against a team from the American Athletic Conference such as  SMU, Memphis, UTSA or even Tulane if it loses in the AAC title game to SMU next week.

But who will be coaching the Eagles?

Late Saturday night, several sources suggested that Eagle coach Jeff Hafley, who has posted a mediocre 21-26 records in 4 seasons at The Heights, could be dismissed and replaced by former  Mississippi State and University of Florida coach Dan Mullen.

Timing may be essential here, if Mullen, who has New Hampshire roots, is also reportedly the leading candidate to replace Dino Babers, who was fired earlier this month at Syracuse.

Syracuse finishes its season on Saturday against Wake Forest and an announcement could be made as early as Monday or Tuesday.

If BC does make a move on Hafley, it will have to act quickly, somethiing which is not normally part of BC's DNA.

Ironically, Mullen, who has served as a college football analyst for ESPN the past few seasons, was at BC, covering the Eagles game against Miami on Friday.

An in person interview with BC athletic director Blake James and other BC officials could easily have been arranged.

If  Mullen does choose Syracuse, other names such as Notre Dame defensive coordinator Al Golden and Holy Cross head coach  Bob Chesney have emerged.

Stay tuned.
