WBB: Sunday matinee at Providence rescheduled due to severe weather

The University of Connecticut women’s basketball program has announced that the Big East Conference has made adjustments to their Sunday visit to Providence. What was originally an 11 a.m. tip-off at Dunkin’ Donuts Center is now scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. at Alumni Hall on the Providence campus. SNY is still expected to carry the game.
Such changes to the schedule were prompted by the threat of winter storms in the Northeast that could bring 12-18 inches of snow and winds as high as 55 miles per hour to the Providence area, per the National Weather Service. The adjustments also moved a ranked men’s matchup between No. 17 Providence and No. 22 Marquette, which was originally scheduled for Saturday at 4:30 p.m. ET. It has since been moved to Sunday at 12:30 and will still be held at Dunkin’ Donuts Center.
The Huskies (12--4, 7--0 Big East), ranked 10th in the latest Associated Press poll, have now seen their week disrupted by both threatening weather and rescheduling brought about by COVID-19 postponements. They were originally set to take on top-ranked South Carolina on Thursday night in Columbia, but the Gamecocks were forced to cancel a rematch of November’s Battle 4 Atlantis final due to a rescheduled conference contest against No. 24 Mississippi. UConn instead battled conference foe DePaul on Wednesday night in Chicago in a victorious 80–78 contest that was originally scheduled for Dec. 31 but pushed back due to health issues in the Huskies’ program.
Sunday’s rescheduling means the Huskies will have to wait a few extra hours for the opportunity to extend their winning streak against the Friars (9-9, 4-5 Big East). The end of Providence’s three-game road trip, which they have split so far, has likewise been affected by the weather forecast: a 7:30 p.m. ET Friday tip-off against Creighton was moved two-and-a-half hours forward to afford the Friars a safer flight home from Omaha.
