STORRS, Conn. –  The First period began with UConn firing on all cylinders. One minute and 30 seconds into the game a shot would deflect off the boards straight to junior Amy Landry who would center the puck to senior Danika Pasqua who would push it home to give UConn the 1-0 lead early in the first. Huskies would stay on the attack throughout the first, trying to extend their lead. Providence would try to counter UConn's goal with a goal of their own, but senior goaltender Samantha Carpentier-Yelle and the UConn defense would stand strong. The period would end with both teams firing eight shots on goal but UConn with the one goal lead.

The second period began with UConn jumping on the attack. UConn's aggressive attack would eventually draw a Providence penalty putting UConn on the power play. The Friar's defense would stand strong limiting the Huskies to only two shots on the power play. Immediately following the Huskies power play, UConn would head to the penalty box for an interference call. That wouldn't stop graduate student Natalie Snodgrass from being aggressive as a shorthanded breakaway would be turned away by the Providence goaltender. Providence would tie the game on a shorthanded breakaway goal by Lindsay Bochna midway through the second period. Both teams would head to the break tied at one.

The third period began with both teams a player down due to penalties. After both teams killed off their respective penalties, Providence would continue to stay on the attack and score to take the 2-1 lead early in the third period. Providence would continue to build off the momentum gained from the goal and limit any UConn chances. Both teams would continue to play aggressive causing multiple penalties in the third period. Providence would deny UConn any chance at an equalizer as the game would end with Providence winning 2-1
