Storrs, CT – First place UConn (26-13) welcomes second place Providence (21-12) this weekend for a three game series. The Huskies and the Friars are both sitting at the top of the conference standings looking to gain an edge in the standings.

The Huskies are currently riding an eight game winning streak and have won 13 of their last 15 games. In the past eight games UConn holds a .364 team batting average with 64 runs scored, and 13 extra base hits. In this eight game stretch the Huskies have been led by a trio of seniors in Briana Marcelino, Reese Guevarra, and Sami Barnett. The three have combined to drive in 25 of the Huskies 64 runs. UConn is also very threatening on the basepaths. In the past eight games alone, the Huskies have stolen 32 bases only being thrown out once. On the season they have surpassed the program record that was set last year at 88, with 93 this year. In the game against Fairfield Marcelino broke the single season stolen bases record, recording her 26th stolen bag on the season.

The pitching staff has been dominant holding opponents to a .206 batting average. In the past eight games as a staff, they have a 2.29 era with 68 strikeouts. Elise Sokolsky has come on strong for the Huskies since the start of conference play. She holds an 8-0 record with a 1.95 era and 65 strikeouts in 50.1 innings pitched.

Providence currently holds an 8-4 record in the BIG EAST and is coming into this series losing their last three games. The Friars are led by a pair of underclassmen in Jacque Harrington and Rachael Petrarca. The two have combined for 14 home runs, 37 runs batted in, and 39 runs scored.

UConn will open the series on Friday at 7:30pm which will be aired on FS1. Game two will be on Saturday at 2:00pm. The series finale will be on Monday at 2:00pm.
