USC (22-9, 14-6 Pac-12) was one of four teams to earn a first-round bye after finishing third in the Pac-12 regular season standings behind UCLA and Arizona.
Arizona State (22-11, 11-9 Pac-12) earned its spot in the quarterfinals with a 63-57 victory against No. 11 seed Oregon State in the opening round of the tournament Wednesday.
The Trojans and Wildcats have played each other twice this year and USC came away with single-digit victories in both of those matchups.
USC won 77-69 when the two first met on January 21, and then barely snuck by Arizona State 68-65 in the final game of the regular season just five days ago.
The winner of Thursday's game will advance to the Pac-12 Tournament semifinals Friday where they will take on the winner of No. 2 seed Arizona and No. 10 seed Stanford who also play tonight.
