Two Utes Projected to Go in the First Three Rounds of the 2024 NFL Draft

With the 2024 season reaching the playoffs, excitement and anticipation for the NFL draft is increasing with every passing week. 

In the latest FanNation 3-round mock draft, two Utah Utes are projected to be drafted, both of whom were defensive cornerstones for the program this past year. 

Jonah Ellis to the Atlanta Falcons

Ellis had a breakout season in 2023 racking up 37 total tackles, 12 sacks, and 1 forced fumble. The 6'2" 246-pound edge rusher out of Moscow, Indiana is projected to fall to Atlanta with the 87th pick in the draft, and if he keeps up the momentum gained by his electric junior year, he could be a surefire steal in a few years time. With the young core that Atlanta is putting together on defense, Ellis could slot in as an integral part of the future of that Falcons unit for years to come along with his former Utah teammate Clark Phillips III. 

Cole Bishop to the 49ers

The undisputed defensive leader and fan favorite Cole Bishop had arguably the best year of his career alongside fellow Utah man Jonah Ellis. Bishop tallied 60 total tackles, 3 passes defended, 3 sacks, 1 forced fumble, and 2 interceptions in his junior year at the U. The 6'2" 207-pound safety out of Peachtree City, Georgia is projected to land in San Fran with the 98th pick in the draft and could join Talanoa Hufanga in forming the most formidable last line of defense in the entire league. With his leadership ability and size combined with his ball-hawking tendencies, Bishop is sure to be a welcome addition to any NFL locker room.
