In this story:

The Utah football program missed out on an opportunity to add to its 2027 recruiting class Friday, as Alabama native and touted wide receiver prospect, Darion Moseley, announced his committment to Louisville.

Moseley chose the Cardinals over his other finalists Vanderbilt, Missouri, Arkansas, Nebraska and the Utes. The three-star recruit from Thompson High School is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 128 wide receiver and the No. 35 player from the state of Alabama in the 2027 class.

In addition to his final six, Moseley held offers from several power conference programs, including Arizona State, Kentucky, Maryland and Washington. Utah was firmly in the mix because of Moseley's relationship with Utes wide receiver coach Chad Bumphis, who originally recruited the 5-foot-11 speedster during his time at Mississippi State.

Moseley had arranged to check out Utah's campus for June 12, though it's unclear if he still plans on making the trip out to Salt Lake City. He'd also lined up visits with Mississippi State (May 29) and Louisville (June 5) prior to his commitment date.

The race to land Moseley heated up during his junior season, in which he led Alabama's 7A division with 1,128 receiving yards while hauling in seven touchdowns on 68 receptions. That output vaulted him up the 247Sports recruiting rankings, where he slotted in as the No. 4 wide receiver prospect in the state ahead of his senior season.

What this means for Utah's 2027 recruiting class

Utah is still in the process of building a solid foundation for its 2027 recruiting class. For the time being, three-star wide receiver prospect Kingston Parks remains as the Utes' only commit for 2027 (and it's not a foregone conclusion he'll sign with the team).

That said, securing Moseley's commitment would've went a long way in building Utah's future wide receiver corps. The Utes didn't bring in a wideout in the 2026 class and will lose three likely contributors on the current roster after the upcoming season due to graduation (Kyri Shoels, Larry Simmons and Tobias Merriweather).

The good news for Bumphis and company is there are still a few wide receivers on their target board who remain uncommitted. Dillon Sykes, a three-star from California who met with Bumphis during the January contact period and received an offer from the Utes, is firmly on the radar ahead of his June 5 visit to campus.

Three-stars Brody Knowles (No. 98 wide receiver) and Sheldon Isaac (No. 66) are a couple of other names to monitor as well heading into the spring and summer months.
