Maggie Cagle Named Preseason All-ACC, Virginia Picked to Finish 3rd

After a remarkable freshman campaign, Maggie Cagle is poised to take another big leap in her sophomore season with the Virginia women's soccer team. Cagle was selected to the preseason All-ACC women's soccer team by a vote of the league's coaches on Thursday.

In her freshman season in 2022, Cagle tallied four goals and a team-leading 12 assists, a mark which also led all NCAA Division I freshmen. Seven of those assists were on game-winning goals and Cagle also scored game-winning goals against Oregon State and Wake Forest, leading the Cavaliers to a 16-4-3 overall record and an appearance in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championship. Cagle was selected to the All-ACC Third Team in 2022 and is now recognized again as one of the conference's top players heading into the 2023 season.

The ACC's coaches also voted Virginia to finish third in the conference standings. UVA received 139 total points and one first-place vote, trailing second-place Florida State with 146 points and two first-place votes, and first-place North Carolina with 166 points and 10 first-place votes. Virginia is ranked No. 5 in the United Soccer Coaches preseason top 25.
