No. 10 UVA Women's Lacrosse Stays Perfect With 18-12 Win Over Elon

The No. 10 Virginia women's lacrosse team remained unbeaten on the season with an 18-12 victory over Elon on Sunday afternoon at Klockner Stadium.

Virginia jumped out to an early 3-0 lead behind goals from Kiki Shaw, Jaime Biskup, and Mackenzie Hoeg, but Elon responded with back-to-back goals. Biskup added a second goal to give UVA a 4-2 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Shaw scored again to put Virginia ahead 5-2 early in the second, but the Phoenix scored four of the next five goals to tie the game at 6-6. Virginia responded well to the game pressure from Elon, closing the half on a 3-0 run. Kate Miller fed Rachel Clark for a goal and then, after a goal by Maureen Duffy, Miller scored an unassisted goal herself to make it 9-6 Virginia at the half.

Elon opened the second half with back-to-back goals to get back within one, but the Cavaliers answered back with four-straight goals, each by a different goal scorer. Jaime Biskup scored again with 37 seconds left in the third quarter to give UVA a 14-9 lead entering the final frame.

The Phoenix wouldn't go down easily, scoring three out of the first four goals of the fourth quarter to make it a three-goal spread with seven minutes left. The UVA defense tightened up down the stretch and the Cavaliers ended the game on a 3-0 run, including a pair of goals from Ashlyn McGovern and Virginia secured the 18-12 win.

It was a quiet day for Virginia's leading scorers, as Ashlyn McGovern had just two goals after scoring a career-high seven goals on Friday and Rachel Clark had two goals and two assists. Jaime Biskup led the way with four goals and an assist and Kate Miller put up a career-high six points on three goals and three assists. Mackenzie Hoeg had three goals and an assist, Kiki Shaw recorded two goals, and Morgan Schwab had one goal and two assists.

It wasn't the same dominant performance the Cavaliers have grown accustomed to over the last few weeks, but they got the job done and remained undefeated at 6-0. Up next, Virginia heads down to Chapel Hill to take on the No. 1-ranked and defending national champion North Carolina Tar Heels on Saturday at 1pm.
