UVA Men's Tennis Sweeps Miami 4-0, UVA Women's Tennis Beats Syracuse 4-2

Both of the Virginia tennis teams kicked off the weekend with victories over ACC opponents on Friday. The UVA men's tennis team swept Miami 4-0 in Charlottesville, while the UVA women's tennis team won 4-2 at Syracuse.
Men's Tennis: Virginia 4, Miami 0
It was the ACC opener for the No. 21 Virginia men's tennis team against Miami on Friday afternoon at Boar's Head. Jeffrey von der Schulenburg and Alexander Kiefer picked up a 6-3 win and Inaki Montes and Ryan Goetz won 6-4 to clinch the doubles point for the Cavaliers.
Goetz continued that momentum into single play, defeating Franco Aubone 6-3, 6-1 on court 4. Alexander Kiefer added a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Nacho Serra Sanchez 6-2, 6-4 on court 6 to make it 3-0 in favor of Virginia. Chris Rodesch clinched the 4-0 sweep for UVA with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Dan Martin on the top court.
Now 9-4 and 1-0 in ACC play, Virginia remains at home to host No. 15 Florida State on Sunday at 1pm at Boar's Head.
Women's Tennis: Virginia 4, Syracuse 2
The No. 15 Virginia women's tennis team faced its third-consecutive ranked opponent on Friday, playing at No. 16 Syracuse. Julia Adams and Melodie Collard didn't drop a single game in their 6-0 win on court 1 and then Natasha Subhash and Elaine Chervinsky picked up a 6-3 win to clinch the doubles point for UVA.
Chervinsky took down Syracuse's Miyuka Kimoto 6-4, 6-1 on court 3, but the Orange got on the board as Sara Ziodato fell to Polina Kozyreva 6-4, 6-1. Hibah Shaikh earned a 6-2, 6-4 win over Shiori Ito on court 5 to make it 3-1 in favor of the Cavaliers.
Syracuse answered back as Viktoriya Kanapatskaya defeated Natasha Subhash 6-4, 6-3. Melodie Collard dropped her second set 6-7, but then dominated the third set to beat Ines Fonte 6-4, 6-7, 6-0 to clinch the 4-2 victory for Virginia.
Now 8-3 and 2-1 in ACC play, Virginia continues this ACC road trip with a game at Boston College on Sunday at 10am.
