Virginia Beats Florida State to Advance to ACC Men's Tennis Championship Match

The Cavaliers will play for their third-straight ACC Men's Tennis Championship. No. 1 seed and two-time defending ACC champion Virginia defeated No. 5 seed Florida State 4-1 in the semifinals of the ACC Men's Tennis Championship on Saturday afternoon at Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center in Durham.

UVA got off to a solid start with Ryan Goetz and Alexander Kiefer winning 6-3 on court 3 and Chris Rodesch and Jeffrey von der Schulenburg winning 6-2 on court 2 to clinch the doubles point for the Cavaliers.

The top singles court saw a top 10 showdown with No. 8 Chris Rodesch of Virginia taking on No. 6 Antoine Cornut-Chauvinc of Florida State. Rodesch set the tone for the match for the Cavaliers with a resounding 6-1, 6-4 victory, earning his fourth win against a top 10 opponent this season.

Jeffrey von der Schulenburg made it 3-0 in favor of Virginia with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Youcef Rihane on court 3. The Seminoles got on the board with a 6-4, 6-2 win by Jamie Connel over Mans Dahlberg on court 6, but Ryan Goetz sealed the win for UVA with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Joshua Dous-Karpenschif.

The win sends Virginia to the final, where the Cavaliers will take on No. 2 seed Duke on Sunday at 2pm at Cary Tennis Park. UVA is seeking its third-striaght ACC title and 15th in program history. The game will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
