The Virginia Cavaliers have officially reestablished their dynasty in NCAA men's tennis. For the second year in a row and the sixth time in the last 11 years, UVA has won the NCAA Men's Tennis National Championship.

No. 5 seed Virginia completed its successful national title defense on Sunday afternoon at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, delivering a dominant performance in a 4-0 sweep over No. 3 seed Ohio State to claim the 2023 NCAA Men's Tennis National Championship.

Last season, the Cavaliers started the year 5-5 before going on a 23-match winning streak to claim the ACC regular season title, ACC Tournament Championship, and NCAA National Championship. A similar story followed for head coach Andres Pedroso and the Wahoos in 2023 as they strung together 22-consecutive victories to again win the ACC regular season and Tournament titles and now the NCAA Championship.

The road to the title took the Cavaliers through the best teams in the nation. UVA defeated No. 12 Duke, No. 4 Kentucky, No. 1 Texas, and then No. 3 Ohio State to claim the national championship. That run included wins over two teams - Ohio State and Kentucky - who beat Virginia earlier this season.

In doubles action, Ohio State struck first by winning court 3 as JJ Tracy and Cannon Kingsley beat Ryan Goetz and Alexander Kiefer 6-3. But, the Buckeyes had that lead for only a moment as UVA's Chris Rodesch and Jeffrey von der Schulenburg quickly beat Andrew Lutschuanig and James Trotter 6-2. On court 1, Inaki Montes and William Woodall defeated Robert Cash and Justin Boulais 6-3 to secure the doubles point for Virginia.

Jeffrey von der Schulenburg kept things going for the Cavaliers in singles play with a dominant 6-2, 6-1 victory over JJ Tracy on court 3. Chris Rodesch moved Virginia to within a point of the the championship as he cruised past Justin Boulais, the No. 24-ranked player in the ITA men's tennis rankings, 6-4, 6-2 on court 3 to make it 3-0 in favor of the Cavaliers. Rodesch was named the MVP of the NCAA Tournament after the match.

Inaki Montes had the honor of clinching the championship for Virginia, overpowering No. 11-ranked Cannon Kingsley 6-4, 6-2 on court 2 to complete the sweep.

Virginia ends the 2023 season on a 22-match winning streak and finishes with a 30-4 overall record.

In 2013, the Cavaliers won their first-ever national championship under head coach Brian Boland, who later led the Hoos to three-consecutive titles in 2015, 2016, and 2017 before leaving Virginia to become the USTA Player Development Head of Men's Tennis. Andres Pedroso inherited the program in 2017 and coached the Cavaliers to their fifth national title in 2022. A year later, Pedroso and the Wahoos are kings of collegiate men's tennis once again.

University of Virginia sports teams have now won 33 NCAA Team National Championships.
