Virginia Tennis Teams Finish Weekend With Pair of ACC Wins

No. 21 UVA men's tennis swept No. 15 Florida State 4-0 and No. 15 UVA women's tennis won at Boston College 6-1 on Sunday

The Virginia tennis teams completed the undefeated weekend with a pair of ACC victories on Sunday. No. 21 Virginia men's tennis swept No. 15 Florida State in Charlottesville and No. 15 UVA women's tennis picked up a 6-1 win at Boston College on Sunday. 

Men's Tennis: Virginia 4, Florida State 0

Chris Rodesch and William Woodall picked up a 6-2 win on the top court and Inaki Montes and Ryan Goetz won 6-3 on court 2 to secure the doubles point for the Cavaliers. Jeffrey von der Schulenburg picked up a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Youcef Rihane on court 3 and Alexander Kiefer defeated Alex Bulte 6-4, 6-2 on court 6 to put Virginia up 3-0. UVA clinched the victory with a momentous singles win, as No. 36 Chris Rodesch earned a big-time 6-2, 6-4 upset victory over Antoine Cornut-Chauvinc, the No. 2-ranked player in the ITA men's singles rankings. 

Now 10-4 on the season and 2-0 in ACC play, Virginia will hit the road for a pair of ACC matches at Louisville on Friday and at Notre Dame on Sunday. 

Women's Tennis: Virginia 6, Boston College 1

Melodie Collard and Julia Adams won 6-2 and Elaine Chervinsky and Natasha Subhash picked up a 6-1 win to secure the doubles point for Virginia. Sara Ziodato beat Seren Agar 6-2, 6-1 on court 4 and Hibah Shaikh defeated Muskan Mahajan 6-3, 6-2 on court 5 to make it 3-0 in favor of the Cavaliers. Elaine Chervinsky dropped her first set to Sophia Edwards, but then came back to win 2-6, 6-2, 6-1. The same was the case for Melodie Collard, who beat Stephanie Sanchez 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 on court 6. Marice Aguiar earned Boston College's lone point of the match with a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Julia Adams on the top court. Natasha Subhash won a super tiebreaker on court 2 to beat Laura Lopez 6-3, 6-7, 1-0 to give Virginia the 6-1 win. 

Now 9-3 and 3-1 in ACC play, Virginia will play at UCF on Friday at 5pm in Orlando.
