Virginia picked up its second transfer commitment of the offseason as Akron graduate transfer linebacker Corey Thomas Jr. announced his commitment to UVA on Monday evening.

A 6'4", 215-pound redshirt junior from Pittsburgh, Thomas comes to Virginia for his final season of collegiate eligibility. Thomas appeared in 40 total games over the last five seasons for the Zips, including all 12 games in 2023. This season, he posted 51 total tackles, 28 of them solo stops, 4.5 tackles for loss, three passes defended and a fumble recovery. For his career, Thomas has 105 tackles, seven tackles for loss, six passes defended, three fumble recoveries, one sack, and one interception. Thomas has played against some top-level competition throughout his career, including true road games at Ohio State, Auburn, Tennessee, Kentucky, Michigan State, and Indiana.

Virginia has some experience returning at the linebacker position with James Jackson, Josh McCarron, Kam Robinson, Stevie Bracey, and Trey McDonald all coming back. But the addition of Corey Thomas Jr. gives the Cavaliers an experienced veteran and a versatile defender capable of playing multiple positions in Virginia's defense.
