Virginia freshman quarterback Anthony Colandrea was named the ACC Rookie of the Week, the conference announced on Monday afternoon. Colandrea became the first Cavalier freshman to win the award since 2020, when Lavel Davis Jr. won it twice.

In his first collegiate start against JMU on Saturday, Colandrea completed 20 of 26 passes for 377 yards and two touchdowns and each of those marks matched or surpassed the program freshman records.

Jameel Sewell held the previous passing record by a UVA freshman with 243 yards against Maryland in 2006. Colandrea's 75-yard touchdown pass to Kobe Pace was the longest ever by a Virginia freshman quarterback and the longest completion for UVA since the 2021 season.
