There will be no shortage of experience at the quarterback position for Virginia football in 2024. Along with electric true freshman Anthony Colandrea, who played in eight games and made six starts this season, UVA also got the official news on Saturday that senior quarterback Tony Muskett will be utilizing his final year of eligibility to return to Virginia for the 2024 season.

Muskett announced that decision in an Instagram story on Saturday and also reported that he underwent successful shoulder reconstruction surgery.

"After some doubt about my football future, I'm happy to have had successful shoulder reconstruction surgery and feel like I have more to give," Muskett wrote. "I'll be returning to UVA for my last year of college football eligibility. I look forward to serving this team and community. Thank you Lord."

A senior from Springfield, Virginia who transferred to UVA in December of 2022 after spending the previous three seasons at Monmouth, Muskett earned the starting quarterback job entering the season, but suffered a shoulder injury in the opener against Tennessee, an injury that would nag him for the rest of the season. The true freshman Colandrea started the next three games before Muskett returned and started the following five games, which included wins over William & Mary and at North Carolina. Muskett then suffered another injury, this time to his ankle, causing him to miss the final three games of the season.

For the year, Muskett completed 93 of 147 passing attempts (63.3%) for 1,031 yards and six touchdowns to five interceptions.

At the very least, Virginia will have competitive depth at the top of its quarterback depth chart, returning two players with extensive starting experience in the program for the 2024 season.
