Virginia men's lacrosse moved up a spot to No. 2 in this week's Inside Lacrosse Men's Division I Media Poll released on Monday. Reigning national champion and previous No. 1 Notre Dame suffered an overtime loss to Georgetown on Sunday and subsequently fell to No. 6. In the vacuum created by the fall of the Irish, Duke and Virginia each moved up a spot to become the new respective No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the country.

The Blue Devils received 16 of the possible 26 first-place votes and edged the Cavaliers by just eight total points, 508-500. Virginia received nine first-place votes and third-ranked Maryland received one first-place vote. No. 4 Denver and No. 5 Army round out the top five.

UVA improved to 3-0 on the season with a 14-8 victory over Ohio State on Sunday. The Buckeyes were No. 18 at the time of the game, but fell out of the Top 20 following their loss. Virginia also has wins over Michigan and Richmond, who are currently ranked No. 13 and No. 14, respectively.

All five ACC teams are currently ranked in the Top 20 - No. 1 Duke, No. 2 Virginia, No. 6 Notre Dame, No. 7 Syracuse, and No. 18 North Carolina - as is UVA's next opponent on the schedule as No. 8 Johns Hopkins comes to Charlottesville this weekend to contend for the Doyle Smith Cup. Opening faceoff between the Cavaliers and Blue Jays is set for 1pm at Klockner Stadium and the game will be televised on the ACC Network.
