UVA Alum Matt Moore Sets PLL Career-High With Four-Goal Performance

With their start attackman Grant Ament out of the lineup with an injury, the Archers needed someone to step up.

Enter Matt Moore.

Former Virginia men's lacrosse star Matt Moore, who normally plays midfielder for the Archers Lacrosse Club in the Premier Lacrosse League, moved up to the attack line to replace Ament and made the most of his opportunity. Moore set a new PLL career-high for himself by scoring four goals as he led the Archers to a 15-12 victory over the Whipsnakes on Sunday afternoon in Minneapolis.

That Moore was able to seamlessly and effectively transition into an attackman role should come as no surprise, as he won two national championships and broke Virginia's all-time career points record with 277 points on 143 goals and 134 assists while playing as an attackman at UVA.

Moore displayed his offensive versatility on Sunday, finding the back of the net in a variety of fashions, including dodging from behind the cage, ripping a catch-and-shoot step-down shot from the wing, and finally, a Matt Moore classic: the off-balance shot while falling to the ground.

Another former Wahoo, Zed Williams, was on the losing side of that game, but the Whipsnakes attackman tallied three assists and an incredible behind-the-back goal.

Another product of the UVA men's lacrosse program tallied four points this weekend as Charlie Bertrand recorded two goals and two assists in the Redwoods' 13-8 victory over the Chaos.

Additionally, the defending champion Waterdogs debuted their trifecta of former Cavalier midfielders with Jeff Conner and Thomas McConvey joining Ryan Conrad. Conner scored one goal and McConvey added one goal and one assist in his PLL debut, helping the Waterdogs to a 10-7 win over the Chrome.

Between the strong performances of Matt Moore, Charlie Bertrand, and Zed Williams, and the promising rookie campaigns of players like Thomas McConvey, Jeff Conner, Xander Dickson, and Petey LaSalla, the Virginia men's lacrosse program is certainly making its mark in the Premier Lacrosse League.
