The Washington Huskies may have suffered it’s worst loss in the Chris Petersen era last Saturday in Palo Alto, CA. The Huskies entered the contest against the Stanford Cardinal as 16.5 point favorites, and truthfully, many college football  analysts thought that the margin of victory could have been even greater than that. The Cardinal would enter the game being led by their second string (and ultimately 3rd string) quarterback. They would also be fielding a severely banged up offensive line anchored by 3 true freshmen, and they laid claim to the 117th best passing defense in the nation (out of a possible 130 defenses).

But it wouldn’t take long before all of those odds and statistics would take a flying leap out of the window, as Stanford upset the Huskies in a shocking 23-13 game in which the Cardinal dominated the Dawgs in nearly every facet possible.

The Huskies seemed uninspired and listless after their opening offensive drive which saw QB Jacob Eason go 5-5 passing for 75 yards, and lead a 10 play scoring drive to put 7 points on the board for the Dawgs. After that initial drive, the Husky passing attack became anemic, and the rushing attack, less than stellar. WR Aaron Fuller was the only Husky receiver to even be targeted more than once and the Dawgs leading rusher Richard Newton left the game in the third quarter after suffering a lower leg injury in this head scratcher of a game.

The Huskies have effectively been eliminated from CFB playoff contention, and will need a series of minor miracles to have any chance at another Pac 12 championship. This week for the first time in their 2019 campaign, the Washington Huskies do not appear in either the AP or the Coaches Top 25 poll. With so many questions at the midway point of the season, we turn to head coach Chris Petersen and his weekly press conference to hear his impression of the Stanford game, his team and where they go from here. Watch below.

More to come from Petersen’s Monday press conference later today, here at the The University of Washington Husky Sports Illustrated site!
