The Wait is Over - The Eason Era has Begun
Husky fans - Allow me to introduce you to Jacob Eason. He’s the starting QB for the Washington Huskies.
And he’s pretty good.
No. Seriously, he’s really good. At least he was really good in the Huskies season opener vs the Eastern Washington Eagles Saturday afternoon. After a heated QB competition with Jake Haener, which ultimately led to Haener’s abrupt departure from the program, the junior quarterback wasted no time in jump starting the “Eason Era“ of Husky football. Completing 9 of his first 10 passes for 110 yards and 2 touchdowns in just the first quarter, Eason quickly showed the Husky faithful why there was so much excitement about his arrival on Montlake. Why so many were counting down the days until he became eligible to play for the Dawgs. And why he deserves to be their starting quarterback.
Eason and the Huskies had a spectacular day, trouncing the Eastern Washington Eagles 47-14. One of the most spectacular moments of the day was a first quarter toss from Eason to Sr wide receiver Aaron Fuller in the back of the end zone where only Fuller was able to make a play on the ball. Fuller, who made the acrobatic catch, provided the second touchdown of the day for the Dawgs and finished the game with 73 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Eason was in command of the Husky offense and was having his way with the Eagles defense for most of the day. Methodically going through his progressions, Jacob was able to find an open Husky receiver 27 times on Saturday afternoon.
“You dream of things like this...” said Eason immediately following saturday’s game. “The way we handled practice this week and got the game plan ready and got the small things ready day by day throughout camp, I think this team has done a great job focusing each day.”
Eason finished this particular day completing 27 of 36 passes for 349 yards, 4 TD’s and no INT’s. His 349 yards through the air are the most ever thrown by a Husky QB in their debut start. Next week Washington will face what should be a more formidable opponent in the California Bears (Saturday September 7th at 7:30 PM PST - Husky Stadium). The Dawgs will be looking not only to improve to 2-0, but to exact some revenge on a Bears team that beat them last year in a very weird 13-12 game.
And Jacob Eason will be looking to take Husky Nation one step further into the “Eason Era”.
