ESPN's Jeff Borzello Gives Latest Update on WVU's Coaching Search

Who will guide the Mountaineers in 2024-25 and beyond?

With the 2023-24 season coming to an end this evening in Kansas City, West Virginia AD Wren Baker will now dive deep into the coaching search for the next head men's basketball coach.

Interim Josh Eilert will likely get to sit down and provide a pitch, considering the situation he was handed when he took over and all the of the issues that have arose since.

Just a little over an hour prior to West Virginia's game against Cincinnati, ESPN's Jeff Borzello provided some insight on the search.

"It's been a slow process so far though, with Baker having minimal direct contact with candidates to this point, sources told ESPN. Dusty May has long been perceived as the top target, although that's likely to be the case at a few spots this spring. Other names that have been linked to the vacancy include James Madison's Mark Byington, Drake's Darian DeVries, Colorado State's Niko Medved, Indiana State's Josh Schertz, Charleston's Pat Kelsey and Appalachian State's Dustin Kerns. There has also been some speculation regarding Mississippi State's Chris Jans."
