Six Mountaineers Will Walk on Senior Night

West Virginia will honor six Mountaineers prior to the regular season home finale

West Virginia is celebrating its seniors Wednesday night. Interim head coach Josh Eilert stated six Mountaineers will make their final trip down the carpet before the matchup against TCU, five transferred to WVU over the summer.

Akok Akok

Akok transferred to West Virginia in mid-August after spending a season at Georgetown. The fifth-year senior spent his first three seasons at UConn. He averaged 5.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, and ranked 15th nationally with 2.6 blocks per game during his freshman year. This season, Akok missed eight games due to health complications but managed to average 3.2 points and 2.7 rebounds per game.

RaeQuan Battle

Battle transferred to West Virginia in April of last year. He remained with the program following Bob Huggins’ resignation. He spent his first two seasons in home state of Washington before transferring to Montana State for the next two years. In his final season at Montana State, he averaged 17.7 ppg and was selected to All-Big Sky Conference First Team and was named to the All-Big Sky Tournament MVP after scoring 25 points in the championship game against Northern Arizona.

This season, Battle sat out the first ten games of the season as he fought for his eligibility. He produced career Mountaineer highs in his first two games with the program of 29 points. Battle leads the team in scoring with 16.8 ppg.

Jesse Edwards

Edwards spent four years at Syracuse before transferring to West Virginia. In his last season with the Orange, Edwards averaged a double double, 14.5 points and 10.3 rebounds per game, including career-highs career highs of 27 points to go with 20 rebounds against Wake Forest, 21 rebounds against Bryant and six blocks versus Pitt.

Edwards missed nine games this season with a wrist injury. He put up a season-best 25 points in his second game back from injury. Edwards has five double doubles on the season and averages 14.3 points and 8.2 rebounds per game.

Quinn Slazinski

Slazinski signed with the program in late July. He started his college career at Louisville for two seasons, then transferred to Iona for two years. He averaged 11.3 points and 5.7 rebounds per game in seven games before a season-ending injury.

The Houston, Texas, native is having a career year, averaging 12.4 and 4.1 rebounds per game, including a career-high 22 points against Pitt.

Slazinski is looking for another year of eligibility.

Kerr Kriisa

Kriisa transferred to West Virginia from Arizona in April and remained with the program following Huggins’ resignation. He led the Pac-12 in assists per game (5.14) for the second straight season, becoming the first Pac-12 player to lead the conference in assists in back-to-back years since Brandon Granville (USC) in 2000 and 2001.

Krissa is averaging 11.5 points and 4.7 assists per game, including hitting a career-high 25 points against Kansas State last week. He also leads the team in three-point percentage at 43.0%.

Pat Suemnick

Suemnick is the only Mountaineer that has been with the program for multiple seasons. He began his career at Robert Morris where he averaged 2.4 points and 1.6 rebounds per game. Last season, he made 21 appearances and produced 1.6 points per game.

Suemnick has a bigger role following the departures over the summer and filled in for an injured Jesse Edwards. During that span, he went for a career-high 20 points and six rebounds in the win over third-ranked Kansas. This season, he is averaging 4.3 points and 2.7 rebounds per game.

He has one year of eligibility remaining.
