Neal Brown Film Review: Texas Tech

The head ball coach offers his thoughts after watching the tape of last week's game

Special Teams: "It was a very average day, it wasn't poor, but it was average. We didn't do anything in that piece of the game that changed the outcome. We has two penalties on special teams, one of them was a selfish penalty that gave them the ball around the 42 yard line. We had poor coverage on the opening kickoff. Our punt coverage that's been great all year, it was just okay. We have expectations to be better on that unit."

Defense: "Disappointed in how we played. I don't think we handled the success vs Baylor very well at all, especially on the defensive line. We played poorly at the start, we gave up touchdowns on the first five drives of the game and we obviously weren't ready to go. Missed tackles, slow to the line, our third and fourth down execution was not very good. We did show fight and really only gave up a field goal from about the mid-2nd quarter on, but at that point the damage had been done."

Offense: "Really played well in the open field. That's probably the best we've played since probably the middle of the game against Texas. Struggled in the red zone, that was the difference in the game. But I thought that was the best performance by our quarterbacks and our receivers. I'm excited about the future of those receivers, they're getting better. We had some drops, but they played well on Saturday outside of the drops. We struggle to run the ball, but our pass protection has been solid."

Wrap up: "I want to see improvement and I want to get better. And at this point, we've made some serious improvements. I do believe that we've got better and that we've made solid progress. However on Saturday, on special teams and defense I don't think that showed."
