Derek Culver Lands with New Pro Team

Culver gets another opportunity.

Last week, former West Virginia big man Derek Culver was waived by the South Bay Lakers but it didn't take long for him to find a new home, inking a deal with the Lakeland Magic, the G-League affiliate of the Orlando Magic.

Culver began the season with Capitanes de Ciudad de Mexico where he averaged 3.3 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 12.6 minutes per game in across eleven games. He has bounced around the G-League since leaving West Virginia a year early, playing for the Fort Wayne Mad Ants (2021), Wisconsin Herd (2021-22), Delaware Blue Coats (2022), Capitanes de Ciudad de Mexico (2022-23), South Bay Lakers (2023), and now the Lakeland Magic.

The Warren, Ohio, native averaged 14.3 points and 9.4 rebounds per game in his final season as a Mountaineer and was selected First Team All-Big 12 Conference. The honor marked the third straight season he received postseason conference honors before foregoing his senior season and entered the 2021 NBA Draft.
