Extended! Colton McKivitz Lands New Deal with Niners

The former Mountaineer is set to return to the Bay Area.

The San Francisco 49ers are not looking to replace former West Virginia offensive lineman Colton McKivitz at right tackle and instead, they are giving him a one-year, $7 million contract extension according to his agents at AMDG Sports.

McKivitz was a fifth-round draft pick of the Niners in 2020, but he didn't have the straightest path to becoming a starter.

Following the NFC Championship game, McKivitz did an on-field postgame interview with NBC Sports' Bay Area affiliate and was asked about his journey from being cut to working his way into a starting role.

"Crazy journey. Life gives you ups and downs. Everyone's got a story and this is just mine. I learned some pretty hard lessons early and now just to be where it is, just trying to be humble with how it goes and taking every day how it comes. What a crazy journey to be a Super Bowl starting tackle. Just keep it going from here."
