Geno Smith's Upcoming Payday & What It Means for His Future in Seattle

Seattle commits to a $12.7 paycheck to the former West Virginia QB.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reported Thursday afternoon that the Seattle Seahawks have informed quarterback Geno Smith that he will remain on the roster at least through the end of this week, triggering a $12.7 million paycheck to the veteran quarterback.

This doesn't necessarily mean that the Seahawks plan to move forward with Smith as their starting quarterback, but it does give them that option. It also allows them to trade the former Mountaineer to a QB-needy team and if those discussions begin to percolate, he'll be a very attractive player on the trade market considering how cheap his contract is compared to most starting quarterbacks around the league.

Smith saw a slight dip in production this past season following a campaign in which he set a franchise record for passing yards (4,282) and set a NFL record for completion percentage (69.8%). In 2023, Smith threw for 3,624 yards and 20 touchdowns to nine interceptions while completing 64.7% of his pass attempts.
