Class of 2025 defensive back Julius “JuJu” Lane Jr. holds an offer from West Virginia University. The Mountaineers were the first Power Five school to extend an offer to the Pike Road High School (Alabama) product last year.

Since then, Mississippi State, UNLV and UAB have reached out with offers, and Florida State, Florida, and Alabama continue to show interest.

“They [WVU] was the first Power Five school to take a chance on me,” said Lane. So that’s going to always stick with me throughout my recruiting process.”

Lane does have a ‘dream school’ in Florida State, who has yet to offer, but if they do, it’s not a certainty the Seminoles will land the Alabama talent.

“It will affect my recruitment a lot but at the end of the day, the way college is now with coaches coming and going more and more, it’s all about the relationship with the defensive backs coach. Whichever coach shows more love and keeps it real with me, that’s who I’m going to go play for, no matter if that coach is at UNLV and goes to Oregon, I’m going to following him.”

West Virginia offensive coordinator Chad Scott has been the first to contact Lane, and being so early in his recruitment, he has not had the opportunity to begin the relationship with defensive backs coach ShaDon Brown. However, Lane plans to visit Morgantown this summer.

Lane showcases his speed on offense as a receiver but it’s his play on the defensive side of the ball that that has coaches conveying the message they like his technique, coming in and out of breaks and his physicality.

Currently, Lane has West Virginia as one of his top schools, and the early offer may bode well for the Mountaineers.
