Los Angeles Thieves Gain Momentum, Looking Like Championship Contenders

The LA Thieves are beginning their dominance on the CDL. Could they make another Champs run?

After their two matches this past weekend, the Thieves are 6-1, looking completely dominant in both games. This success is reminiscent of last year's championship run, where they struggled early on before picking up steam in the latter half of the season.

This year, they struggled in Major 1, finished 2nd in Major 2, and then took a step back in Major 3. They're looking like they're back in Championship form to start Major 4 and getting hot right at the right time, albeit beating a bad London Royal Ravens team.

With how competitive the CDL is this year, you can't discredit what they were able to do against London. The Thieves held them to 101 points in Mercado Hardpoint, and from there, they didn't allow them to score a single point. They swept London in Embassy SnD and Asilo Control.

The utter dominance was astounding from the Thieves. The Thieves executed their game plan perfectly, winning gun fights, trading kills efficiently, and rotating seamlessly. The entire round was immaculate.

They did end up beating up a surging Seattle Surge team. Seattle was able to get game five of control and bring Embassy SnD to round 11, but the Thieves were predominant in both Hydro and Embassy Hardpoint.

If their play from last weekend indicates what's to come, the rest of the CDL should be taking notes. They get a Los Angeles Guerrillas team next weekend, who has recently found their own wave of struggles. Then, they follow that match-up with a head-to-head battle against one of the best teams in the CDL, OpTic Texas, which will be a true test of how high the Thieves are trending as we hit the backend of the season.
