Free Weekend & Crossplay Coming to MK1

You'll get a chance to play Mortal Kombat 1 for free in March.

Fresh off its announcement of DLC character, Peacemaker, Mortal Kombat is offering even more to its fans. Over the past few days the MK team announced that there will be a Free Weekend for MK1 and that crossplay is now officially coming to the game as well, which should make finding matches even easier.

When Can I Play MK1 For Free?

March 7th through March 11th you'll be able to download and play Mortal Kombat 1 for free. During this free trial, players will have access to the entire launch roster of characters and a number of game modes. You won't be able to get your hands on Omni-Man, Quan Chi or Peacemaker if you're only playing the trial version of the game. You'll have to buy the retail version and purchase the characters to have access to the DLC characters.

In terms of content within the game, you'll be able to play the first two chapters of the Story mode for free as well. In addition to that, you can also play the Tutorial for the Invasions mode, which is the bulk of the single player content. You'll still need one of the online services (Xbox Live/PSN) to play online if you have consoles.

When Does Crossplay Come To MK1?

One of the big features requested by Kombatants across the world is crossplay. But it has been confirmed that the feature is coming to all platforms in the next patch slated for this week. For those unfamiliar with Crossplay, the feature will allow people to play matches against those who aren't on the same console or platform as them. This should make it so finding matches online in MK1 quick and easy to find in the future.

The next update for MK1 is slated for February 28th.
