Tekken 8 is looking more and more hype as we get to see gameplay and character highlights. But will you be able to play Tekken 8 with friends who are on a different console? Here’s everything we know about Tekken 8 crossplay.

Will Tekken 8 Have Crossplay?

Tekken 8 is confirmed to have crossplay.

There has not been any official discussion on crossplay from Bandai Namco, so how do we know? Well, Director Katsuhiro Harada discussed the possibility on Twitter earlier this year.

Back in April, Harada had a discussion on crossplay with a fan. When someone asked if Tekken 8 would have this feature, Harada replied: “Crossplay? Of course I will.”

This is great news for fans of the classic fighting game. In the past, Tekken titles didn’t have crossplay, which is why many were curious if it would happen this time around.

Harada explained on Twitter that he had wanted crossplay for previous titles on earlier consoles but was “repeatedly refused.” While he didn’t name the two consoles, it was clearly a jab at Sony and Microsoft, who were “at odds” with each other over PlayStation and Xbox’s rivalry.

Will Tekken 8 Have Rollback Netcode?

Harada has also talked about other online features on Twitter, including rollback. He confirmed that rollback has already been installed, adding that it “already has what you want.”

Rollback netcode is important in the fighting game community since online fighting game matches are all about precise and accurate inputs. Rollback netcode ensures that the game state is synchronized for both players, avoiding lag that will cause matches to lose competitive integrity.

Super Smash Bros. has been especially under fire for Nintendo’s lack of rollback netcode. It was never added to Ultimate despite continued frustration from the competitive player base. As a result, a lot of online Smash tournaments are not counted as heavily as LAN tournaments since the lag is too cruddy to make online play reliable.

This is clearly not the case for Tekken 8, which already has rollback super early into its production.

When is Tekken 8 Coming Out?

Tekken 8 currently has no release date. It’s estimated to come out in late 2023 or early 2024. It will be available for Xbox Series X | S, PlayStation 5, and PC.

Tekken 8 is not coming to the Xbox One or PlayStation 4. This means you’ll have to upgrade to the newest generation of console to play Tekken 8 with friends online.
