Gophers quarterback Mitch Leidner told reporters Tuesday that he was medically cleared to resume football activities about a month ago. The strong-armed QB from Lakeville underwent surgery on his left foot over the winter to repair ligament damage stemming from a broken toe he suffered in 2014 and a dislocated toe suffered in 2015.

The photo of his stitched up foot is pretty gross, but we're glad he's finally healthy.

Leidner says he's lost 20 pounds since his December surgery, giving him an expected playing weight of 230 pounds – another reason the senior is excited about the coming season.

"We'll see when camp rolls around if someone wants to peel me back a little bit because I get a little carried away sometimes," Leidner said, via NCAA.com. "But I just feel good. I'm really excited."

Minnesota opens the season at home against Oregon State on Sept. 1. See the full schedule here.
