The NBA has fined Minnesota Timberwolves guard Patrick Beverley $25,000 for an altercation with a referee during Sunday night's loss to the Chicago Bulls.

Beverley was ejected in the second quarter of Sunday's game after he was called for a foul with 19.5 seconds remaining. Beverley argued the call and received a technical foul before it was brought under review.

Although the call was reversed, Beverley's technical was not rescinded. Beverley called the official "trash" several times before receiving a second technical and being ejected from the game.

While Beverley's wallet will be lighter after the fine, the Timberwolves may have dodged a bullet. A suspension would have taken Beverley off the court for Tuesday night's play-in game against the Los Angeles Clippers and potentially longer.

The Timberwolves will play the Clippers with the seventh seed in the Western Conference on the line. If the Timberwolves win, they'll open a best-of-seven series with the Memphis Grizzlies.

If they lose, they'll face the winner of the game between the San Antonio Spurs and New Orleans Pelicans for the eighth seed on Friday night.
