Bud Grant: I chose U of M over cash, car from Wisconsin
The legend of Bud Grant in the state of Minnesota seems to grow on a weekly basis.
This week is no different, after the legendary Vikings' coach spoke at the Minneapolis Club yesterday.
The 86-year old former NBA and NFL draft pick said that despite a scholarship offer, a car, and $100/month from the Wisconsin Badgers, he chose to leave his home state to attend the University of Minnesota, despite the Gophers offering just a scholarship with no added incentives.
The rest, as they say, is history, as Grant lettered nine times in three different sports at the 'U', and went on to lead the Vikings to four Super Bowls and 152 wins in 18 seasons at the helm.
