Vikings extend tight end Johnny Mundt

Mundt caught 17 passes for 172 yards and one touchdown for the Vikings in 2023

Days before free agency opens up in the NFL, the Vikings have extended tight end Johnny Mundt.

Mundt caught 17 passes for 172 yards and one touchdown for the Vikings in 2023. The seventh-year veteran followed head coach Kevin O'Connell from Los Angeles to Minnesota in 2022.

NFL.com insider Tom Pelissero says the deal is valued at $2.5 million.

Typically the team's no. 3 tight end, Mundt picked up a majority of the tight end snaps over the final two weeks of the season after T.J. Hockenson's season-ending injury.

Due to a delay in his surgery to repair a torn ACL, Hockenson is doubtful to start the 2024 season on time. Minnesota have also been reportedly interested in bringing in extra help at the position in free agency due to Hockenson's injury recovery.

Mundt spent five seasons with the Rams after being an undrafted free agent out of Oregon in 2017. Over the past two seasons with Minnesota Mundt has caught 36 passes for 312 yards and two touchdowns.
