Vikings working on a deal to keep training camp in Mankato

Mankato has been home to Minnesota Vikings training camp for 50 years and the football team hopes to continue traveling down Highway 169 from Eden Prairie to Mankato for future training camps.

According to the Star Tribune, the Vikings' contract with Minnesota State-Mankato ends after this year's training camp, but the team is in the process of negotiating a deal to stay on campus in future years.

“I think Mankato does a great job of helping us feel welcome and the university here, as well,” Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer said, per the newspaper. “At this particular time, I believe that this is the best way to go for us.”

On Tuesday, Mark Wilf, president and co-owner of the Vikings, confirmed that negotiations are ongoing.

Wilf talked about a number of other topics, including Adrian Peterson's return to the team, progress on the new stadium and he said he's never been more optimistic about his team's chances since becoming an owner a decade ago.
