3x NBA All-Star Ruled Out For Remainder Of Season

The Brooklyn Nets announced that Ben Simmons will miss the remainder of the season.

On Thursday evening, the Brooklyn Nets will play the Detroit Pistons in Michigan.

Ben Simmons has missed each of the previous five games, and on Thursday morning, the Nets announced that the three-time NBA All-Star will miss the remainder of the season. 

Simmons finished his season with averages of 6.1 points, 7.9 rebounds and 5.7 assists per contest while shooting 58.1% from the field in 15 games. 

Via The Brooklyn Nets: "Ben Simmons will remain out for the remainder of the season while he consults with specialists and explores treatment options for the nerve impingement in his lower back. Simmons, along with his representatives and Nets medical personnel, are currently in discussions with numerous experts to determine the course of action that will provide him with the best opportunity for long-term sustainable health."

Simmons was the first pick in the 2016 NBA Draft out of LSU and has played six seasons in the league for the 76ers and Nets. 

His career averages are 14.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, 7.4 assists and 1.6 steals per contest while shooting 56.0% from the field in 332 regular season games. 

He has also appeared in 34 NBA playoff games. 

As for the Nets, they have had a disappointing season and are the 11th seed in the Eastern Conference with a 25-37 record in 62 games. 

They have gone 4-6 over their last ten games but most recently beat the 76ers by a score of 112-107. 

Following the Pistons, the Nets will visit the Charlotte Hornets on Saturday evening in North Carolina.
