Key Player Injured In Pelicans-Hawks Game

Naji Marshall left Saturday's game between the New Orleans Pelicans and Atlanta Hawks with an injury.

UPDATE: Naji Marshall will be out for at least two weeks.  

Naji Marshall is coming off a solid year where he averaged 9.1 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.5 assists per contest while shooting 43.3% from the field and 30.3% from the three-point range in 77 regular season games for the New Orleans Pelicans.

On Saturday, the Pelicans are facing off against the Atlanta Hawks in Georgia for their third preseason game. 

During the game, Marshall got injured and had to be helped to the locker room. 

Via Andrew Lopez of ESPN: "The Pels - who are already dealing with injuries to Trey Murphy, Jose Alvarado and Larry Nance - could be dealing with one more. 

Naji Marshall just left after injuring his right leg. Teammates helped him off and he was wheelchaired to the locker room."

The Pelicans later announced that Marshall would be out for the remainder of Saturday's game.

Via The Pelicans: "Naji Marshall (right knee) will not return to today’s game."

Marshall has been in the NBA for three years (all with the Pelicans) and has career averages of 7.7 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.1 assists per contest while shooting 41.8% from the field and 28.6% from the three-point range in 164 regular season games.  

He also helped the Pelicans make the playoffs in 2021 (and appeared in six playoff games). 

The Pelicans will play their first game of the regular season on October 25 when they visit the Memphis Grizzlies in Tennessee.   

Last year, they were the ninth seed in the Western Conference with a 42-40 record and missed the NBA playoffs.
