Robert Williams III is in his first season with the Portland Trail Blazers after getting traded (via the Boston Celtics) over the offseason.

Recently, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Williams III would have knee surgery.

On Friday, Wojnarowski has now reported that the 26-year-old will miss the remainder of the season.

Via Wojnarowski: "ESPN Sources: Portland Trail Blazers center Robert Williams III will be required to undergo season-ending right knee surgery."

Via Wojnarowski: "Williams III, who suffered damage to his kneecap and ligaments in a Sunday loss to the Memphis Grizzlies, is expected to be fully recovered for the start of the 2024-2025 season, sources said."

Williams III finishes his season with averages of 6.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.2 steals and 1.2 blocks per contest while shooting 65.4% from the field in six games.

The Trail Blazers are 3-5 in their first eight games and most recently lost to the Sacramento Kings (in overtime) by a score of 121-118.

They are in the middle of a two-game losing streak and will play their next game against the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday (in California).

Williams III was the 27th pick in the 2018 NBA Draft and spent the first five seasons of his career playing for the Boston Celtics.

He helped them make the Eastern Conference Finals three times (and the NBA Finals in 2022).

Last year, the former Texas A&M star averaged 8.0 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.4 blocks per contest while shooting 74.7% from the field in 35 games (20 starts).
