Clippers Star Injured In Loss On Saturday Night To Pelicans

Los Angeles Clippers star forward Kawhi Leonard left Saturday's game against the New Orleans Pelicans due to a facial injury.

Losing 131-110 at home to the New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday night, the Los Angeles Clippers also lost Kawhi Leonard in this matchup.

In the third quarter of Saturday night's game, Leonard took an elbow to the face from Pelicans' Brandon Ingram and went back to the locker room.

Leonard was ruled out shortly after due to what the team called a "facial contusion."

With this loss, the Clippers fell from 4th in the Western Conference standings to being tied with the Golden State Warriors for the 5-seed. Los Angeles currently owns the tiebreaker over Golden State since they own a better division record than the Warriors.

Kawhi Leonard leaving this game against New Orleans is definitely a concern for Clippers' fans, especially since they are already without All-Star Paul George.

Suffering a right knee injury recently, George was diagnosed with right knee sprain and will be out at least the remainder of the regular season. The good news for Paul George is that surgery will not be an option, as he has no torn ligaments in his knee.

According to The Athletic's Law Murray, there is not much concern within the organization in regards to Leonard's injury, as he had a headache from getting hit in the face.

Due to him having a headache, the Clippers likely evaluated Leonard for a concussion.

Playing in 46 games this season, Kawhi Leonard has averaged 23.7 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game while shooting 40.9 percent from three-point range, the highest percentage he has shot from the perimeter since the 2015-16 season.

Not playing on Sunday, the Clippers will play their next game on Monday night against the Chicago Bulls. The team is hopeful that Leonard will be able to play in this game.
